Four Reasons to Start Looking for a New Job

Is it time for a change? It’s important to be happy with your job, since it takes up a large portion of your week. Though it may seem like changing jobs could put you in a tailspin, and that a new job will take a lot of getting used to, the benefits of changing jobs can far outweigh the temporary stress. You just need to consider a few main factors to help you decide whether or not to make the switch.

Four Reasons to Start Looking for a New Job

If you’ve considered new employment, but you’re still not sure what you’d like to do, job coaching advice can help. Below are four major reasons you may want to start your job search now.

  1. You want to increase your experience. If you’re bored with your current job or would simply like to bolster your resume with new and different experiences, a new job may be what you need. Ask yourself if you feel challenged at your current job. Are you able to use your unique skills and strengths? If you feel like you have more to give, it could be time to move on.
  2. You want to advance. Does your current company offer room for advancement? If an increase in responsibility—and income—is what you seek, you probably won’t find it at a company that allows you very little room to grow. Search for a company that will allow you to move up in your career.
  3. Your situation has changed. If you’ve recently had a baby, you may wish to evaluate how your current job fits into your new life. Perhaps you need something that allows you to work part-time or from home, or prefer a company that is a shorter commute from your house or daycare center. Maybe your spouse has accepted a fabulous job offer in another city and it’s time to move. Whatever your life-altering event may be, situations such as these may require you to look for a new job.
  4. Your company isn’t doing well. Your employer may have been up front about this or you may have a sneaking suspicion that tough times are ahead for your current company. If this is the case, it may be time to start seeking more stable employment at a different company.

A little planning is all it takes
If you’ve started thinking about a new job, take the time to ask yourself why. If any of the above reasons have entered your mind, a new job may breathe new life into your career.
