Get on Board with the Company Transparency Movement

Job seekers shop on the internet using the reviews of others to help form their opinions. Ours is a culture in which consumers are in search of very transparent information. And if your business doesn’t have useful, searchable online reviews, your potential employees may be apprehensive about working for you.

One of the best recruitment tools in your arsenal is to build a positive online presence. And you can do this through the opinions of people who have firsthand experience with your company—your employees. Here’s what you can do to help your staff help your recruitment efforts.

Seven ways to get your employees involved in company transparency

You want your staff to be happy about where they work, satisfied with their jobs, and willing to shout it from the rooftops! Here’s what you can do to get your workers involved as megaphones for your company:

  1. Explain why transparency is important.
A positive online presence is key to getting noticed and attracting candidates to your company. Many people are willing to take a chance on something based on the good feedback of others. If you’re collecting online reviews or feedback in an employee survey, simply explain to your employees why you need their words of wisdom and how what they say can help the company.
  2. Look for natural volunteers.
Some of your workers may be ready and willing to act as cheerleaders for your business—and their efforts can go a long way. You might consider bringing a few employees along to a networking event or job fair. Individuals who can answer questions about what it’s like to work for you and can provide information about how great your company is are essential to your cause.
  3. Offer compensation.
You can help encourage your employees to participate by offering compensation. For example, offering a $5 gift card for everyone who posts an online review or answers a survey can entice many people to join in. You might also want to up the ante by entering participants into a drawing for a much larger prize when they complete a specified task.
  4. Manage your social media pages internally.
This way, posts and responses will be more sincere than by using an outside vendor for social media management. Your employees have the insider advantage of working for the company and can offer information and responses based on firsthand experience. Down-to-Earth insights can mean more than overly salesy marketing efforts.
  5. Make it easy to provide feedback.
Most responders won’t have time to fill in a 100-question survey. But by isolating 5-10 key questions, for example, you’ll not only make it easier to provide feedback, you’ll increase the chances that your employees will take a few seconds to do so.
  6. Make your job search page more robust.
One perfect place to insert more information about your company is on your online job search page. Consider adding client or employee testimonials, or other warm and fuzzy tidbits.
  7. Don’t make feedback mandatory.
Some of your staff may not feel comfortable providing feedback, and that’s OK. Don’t force the issue by demanding that participation is mandatory.

If you build it…

You can attract new employees to your company by building an online presence that showcases your company as a great place to work. And your employees are integral to getting this message out into the marketplace.
