As Quarter 2 Ends, Evaluate Your Annual Strategy and Re-Evaluate Your Goals

The year is halfway over! As quarter two draws to a close, now is the time to evaluate your business progress and compare it to your annual strategy and goals. Are you on track? Are there areas in which you need to pick up the slack? Would it help to amend your goals based on what your company has accomplished thus far? Maybe—to all of the above. But where do you begin?

Evaluate Your Company’s Business Strategy & Goals for 2014

  • Review your progress. To continue moving boldly ahead, it helps to reflect on how far you’ve come. Review each and every goal you planned for your business and the strategy you’ve put in place to achieve it. How many goals have you reached and how many are still in process?
  • Be realistic. Of those goals that are not yet complete, how much work still needs to be done? Is it possible to accomplish these goals with the current strategy and staff you have in place? What is reasonable and what may take more than two more quarters to complete?
  • Consider amending your business strategies. If a goal is within reach, by all means go for it, even if you need to push your staff a bit to reach the goal. However, it may be discouraging for your staff—and you—to attempt a goal that is simply out of reach. In this case, you may wish to amend your strategy.

Next steps
How does your current progress compare to the goals you wish to accomplish this year? Midyear is an excellent time to re-evaluate, re-adjust and get back on target. Try the following:

  • Share your successes. Let your employees know of the goals you have accomplished so far for the year. Knowing there’s success under your company’s belt can help staff maintain the mojo to keep moving forward.
  • Remain positive. Positive energy can be very motivating to your employees. Enthusiasm can put everyone on the pathway to accomplishing much more than they could with a lack of enthusiasm.
  • Shuffle assignments. Are the right staff members tasked with key roles in the process of accomplishing your annual goals? If not, consider adjusting or shuffling assignments.
  • Break large tasks into smaller ones. This is a sure-fire way to make goals less daunting. If some of your annual goals are starting to seem too large, break them down into smaller, more-easily accomplished steps.
  • Follow the rule of three. Only work on three goals at one time. Once these are finished, move onto the next three. This helps prevent spreading employees too thin; instead, your staff can expend more energy in one direction to get things done.

Enter the third quarter super-charged and ready to work!
Refreshing your strategies and goals can be energizing. Follow these steps to stay on track and continue moving forward. Here’s to closing out a successful 2014!
