Observing Common Coffee Trends

As the year winds down, it’s an important time to reflect on your achievements and your goals for the new year. It’s also a good time to talk to your team to show your appreciation for all the work they do and learn about their motivators. One motivator may be slowing your team’s productivity if you’re not aware of the latest trends. We’re talking, of course, about coffee.

The office “pot of joe” might not seem like a critical detail in day to day productivity, but for those employees who count on it, work seems that much more overwhelming without. According to some interesting statistics, while it might be great leadership that drives a workplace to success, it might just be the coffee that is fueling the team.

Coffee by the Numbers

An impressive 73.4% of employees are said to drink coffee, and almost 35% are noted to drink two cups per day. While a little less than 30% are noted to drink only one cup per day, about 21% are drinking 3 or more cups on a daily basis. Coffee is clearly a common thread across many professionals daily lives. The majority (67%) drink their coffee only in the morning, but a fair amount of workers also like to enjoy a cup in the afternoon to help them make it through the remainder of the day. When it comes to taste, most people prefer Starbucks (21%) over Dunkin Donuts (13%), and Keurig and Folgers are tied for 5%. A little less than half of drinkers take their coffee with cream and/or sugar, but 22% swear they only take it black.

More Than Just Caffeine

While the jolt that comes from a strong cup of coffee can be enough to kick start your day, many people enjoy their daily cup for more than just the chemical effects. It’s about a more holistic experience, including the heat, the smell, even the holding of the cup. Many workers feel their morning is simply incomplete without it, even if they’re drinking decaf. As an employer, recognizing that desire for a warm cup of coffee to start the day off right is critical. What better way to keep your team productive than providing them with the drink they crave to get in the game?

The Perks of Productivity

In our day and age of creative incentives and multi-level reward programs, never underestimate the power of a free cup of coffee to inspire your workers. Take some time mull to over the coffee preferences of your team and do what you can to meet their expectations. While it’s unrealistic to show up every day with fresh to-go cups from the local coffee shop, but putting out some cream and sugar will be highly appreciated by the employees you want to see succeed.
