Three team builders that DON’T involve alcohol

It’s healthy for coworkers to hang out together. Getting to know each other helps everyone forms bonds that lead to improved collaboration, friendlier office culture, and happier employees. But when alcohol is involved, it can be alienating to those who don’t drink, problematic for those who do, and even dangerous when employees need to travel afterward.

Three Alcohol-Free Employee Activities

There are plenty of ideas for team events that involve not a drop of alcohol. Here are three from a leading provider of hiring support in Georgia—Snelling Georgia Group:

Take a Field Trip

Just like back in grade school days, field trips are fun! They give employees a chance to get out of the office, see something new and spend time with each other in a work-free setting. Travel to a science or history museum, art gallery, aquarium, botanical garden or historical site in your city. Take a guided tour or look one up online and take your own. Include a lunch stop during the trip or ask everyone to pack their own. Employees will be able to learn something new while enjoying each other’s company.

Take a Hike

This can be as intense or leisurely as you like, guided or not. You can choose a path in a national park, biking trail, the beach, along the waterfront, through an historic part of town or even the mall. Bring water and snacks for along the way, and don’t forget the sunblock if you’ll be outside. Ask that everyone dresses for the occasion, including sneakers.

Take a Class

Cooking classes are available for everything from fine dining to desserts. It all depends on what’s available in your region! Look for culinary institutes, colleges, adult education programs, grocery stores or local businesses. A simple Google search can yield results. Other popular classes could include painting, pottery or crafts. Making something tangible is a great way for people to bond, cut loose and have a little fun!
