How can you better measure your success in 2022?

As you set your resolutions for the New Year, you may be wondering—how do you know when you’re done? It’s all about goal setting. If you plan specific goals and make them measurable, you’ll easily be able to track your progress and success in 2022.

Set SMART goals

One of the best ways to reach your goals is to make them SMART. This is an acronym that stands for:

  • Specific (Simple, Sensible, Significant)
  • Measurable (Meaningful, Motivating)
  • Achievable (Agreed, Attainable, Action-oriented)
  • Relevant (Reasonable, Realistic and Results-based)
  • Time-bound (Time-sensitive)

First, think about what you’d like to do

The first step in setting your goals is taking time to think about what you’d like to accomplish. It could be related to your career, finances, personal life, health or fitness, among many other things. This has to do with the Specific step in SMART goals—what exactly are you looking to do?

Create a plan for how to reach your goal

What actions can you take to reach your goal? Remember to keep them achievable, so you don’t get intimidated and procrastinate.

Break large goals down into smaller steps

This important process makes your goals a lot less scary to think about, because no step is too small—as long as you’re still moving forward. Choose your steps and set timeframes for when you’ll work on and complete them.

Make your steps measurable

How will you know when a step is complete? For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, you might decide to lose 2 pounds a month. This is something you can easily measure to know if you’re on track.

Adjust your plan as you go

Just like driving a car, working on your goals may require you to turn your steering wheel, and adjust your path along the way. Getting back to the example of losing weight, maybe one of your steps is to start running for 10 minutes every day. But you’ve found that you don’t like running and often make excuses to avoid it. Plus, when the weather is cold, you don’t want to go outside. You can stay on track by adjusting to walking inside on a treadmill for 10 minutes a day.

Don’t give up!

If you stick to it and continuously adjust based on your progress, there’s nothing you can’t achieve. It’s all about hard work and commitment. What goals will you set for yourself in 2022?
