What to do if you’re not feeling challenged by your daily work responsibilities

Once upon a time, you were happy and loved your job. But lately, things don’t feel the same. You used to be motivated to work hard and contribute—you feel yourself simply going through the motions, day in and day out. You feel like you need a change, but you’re not sure what to do.

Have no fear! All it takes is some thought and good conversation to put your career back on track. Just follow this information from one of the leading temp agencies in Atlanta—Snelling Georgia Group.

Talk to Your Boss

If you love the type of work your company does and you enjoy your coworkers, but you just aren’t feeling the zip of inspiration lately—schedule some time to talk to your boss. Let him or her know that you feel you’ve mastered the tasks on your plate, and you’re ready for something new. This could involve transitioning your current work to a newer team member and opening up your opportunities for new and different tasks. Maybe you want to learn a new skill and can attend classes or an industry conference. Talk about steps you can take and options available to you.

Offer to Help Coworkers

Do you have coworkers within your department who could use help with their work? This could be a chance to learn something different and even wok with a mentor. Think outside your department as well—is there a different role you’d like to learn more about? Let your boss know what you find interesting and talk about ways you could work it into your daily schedule.

When it’s Time to Go

Let’s say your boredom at work is due to other factors. Maybe you no longer like what you do or you no longer identify with the company, the culture, your boss or your coworkers. You’re feeling out-of-sync and it’s leading you to become apathetic, and essentially bored. If this is the case, it can be frustrating or even unhealthy to continue along the same path—and it might be time to try something new.

Talk to a Recruiter

So what are your options if you think you may want to move on? Talk to your recruiter and explain how you’re feeling. He or she will work with you to understand your career goals and talk about opportunities that may await. Maybe it’s time to start looking for a new permanent position. Or maybe you need to learn a new skill to qualify for a different job. If you’re not sure what to do next, you could try a temporary position in a field you think you may like, to see if it suits you. Your recruiter will let you know about different options available to you.
